Bernie Kraft was appointed as the Chief of Police for the City of Seminole, Texas in November 2012.
He served over 22 years with the City of Midland, Texas Police Department where he retired as a Lieutenant to take the Police Chief’s position in Seminole.
During his time with the Midland Police Department, he was awarded (2) Distinguish Service medals, (2) Service awards, the Chief’s award and numerous commendations. Chief Kraft was in charge of several specialty units such as SWAT, Gangs and K9 as well as Incident Commander for large events such as the Midland Air Show and Rock the Desert concerts during his tenure with Midland PD.
He holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and a Bachelor of Arts degree also from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
Chief Kraft is the current board chairman for the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy and continues to be an instructor for the academy and is the Region 3 Director for the Texas Police Chiefs Association.
He is married to Bertha, who works for the Seminole ISD, and has a son and daughter who are both involved with law enforcement.
Chief Kraft is also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
