M.S. Doss Youth Center

This beautiful, City maintained facility, is a tribute to the late Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Doss and their love for young people. Though they had no children of their own, this pioneer couple enjoyed young people and saw them as our nation’s brightest hope for the future. Seeing a need in Seminole for a facility where youth could gather with proper supervision to grow and mature in a positive atmosphere, they built the M.S. Doss Youth Center in 1961. It was renovated and enlarged in 1975; an outdoor swimming pool was opened in 1984, and in 1989 added two racquetball courts. These additions were made possible by the generosity of the M.S. Doss Foundation, which the Dosses founded and worked with until his death in 1964 and hers in 1983.

The M.S. Doss Youth Center was built to provide a wholesome atmosphere for recreational and educational activities for its members.

The center has a full-time director, Mike Shain, a Seminole native who has been with the center since 1979, and assistant director, Tim Sage. A board of trustees made up of Seminole businesspersons oversees the Youth Center. For nominal dues of $10 per year, students in grades 6-12 can be a part of the Youth Center, with membership currently numbering more than 600.
